Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa held talks in Damascus on Monday with US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack to discuss the latest regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

The meeting took place in the presence of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the Syrian presidency said in a statement on US social media company X.

No details were released about the content of the discussions, but the talks came amid renewed diplomacy on the Syrian issue and ongoing instability across the region.

Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia last December, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963. Sharaa’s new transitional administration was formed in January.
