Syrian Army takes control of YPG/SDF-occupied al-Aktan prison in Raqqa

Reports claiming that clashes occurred around prison do not reflect the truth, says Defense Ministry

Syrian Army takes control of YPG/SDF-occupied al-Aktan prison in Raqqa Clashes continue between the Syrian army and YPG, operating under the name SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) who refuse to hand over Aktan Prison, in Syria’s Raqqa province on January 19, 2026.

The Syrian Army has taken control of al-Aktan Prison, located north of Raqqa city center and previously occupied by the YPG/SDF terrorist group and elements from the ousted regime.

In a statement, the Syrian Defense Ministry said that security has been fully established at al-Aktan prison and that security forces have been deployed around the area.

It said that reports claiming that clashes occurred around the prison do not reflect the truth.
