Qatar says 2 drones from Iran target energy sites
Defense Ministry says facilities in Mesaieed and Ras Laffan were hit; damage assessment underway
ISTANBUL
Qatar’s Defense Ministry said Monday that the country was attacked by two drones launched from Iran, targeting energy infrastructure without causing casualties.
In a statement on the US social media platform X, the ministry said one drone struck a water tank at a power plant in Mesaieed, an industrial city south of Doha.
The second drone targeted an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City operated by QatarEnergy, it added.
No injuries were reported.
The ministry said authorities are assessing the damage and will issue a detailed statement later.
It urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm, follow instructions from security authorities, “avoid rumors and rely on official sources for information.”
This came as the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday, killing several top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as regional countries which are home to US assets.
