Israeli forces killed an official from the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, in a strike in northern Lebanon's Tripoli, the Israeli military claimed Thursday.

Wasim Attallah Ali served as a commander and "was responsible for training and exercises in Hamas' military wing in Lebanon," it said in a statement.

There has been no statement from Hamas on the claim.

The development came as the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack Saturday on Iran, killing more than 900 victims, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries, which are home to US assets.
