Iraqi officials revealed on Friday that U.S. and Iraqi soldiers had taken control of the Iraqi-Syrian border area which was frequented by Daesh terrorists.

Along with U.S. military advisors, the 15th brigade and the 37th regiment of the Iraqi army have been deployed on the Iraqi-Syrian border in western Mosul, according to Ahmad al-Jaburi from Iraqi Joint Operation Command.

Iraqi military plans to establish a permanent military zone in Yezidi-populated Sinjar Mt., al-Jaburi said.

Late last year, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but eliminated. However, it appears the terrorist group still maintains “sleeper cells” in several parts of the country.
