UN special envoy Geir Pedersen met with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss the reconstruction of post-war Syria, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
In a statement, the ministry said the two men had also discussed the refugee crisis and the need for a new Syrian constitution.
They also exchanged views on the fight against terrorism and Washington’s planned troop withdrawal from Syria, according to the statement.
Pedersen and Zarif further agreed on the need for stepped-up cooperation between the UN and Tehran with a view to resolving the years-long Syria crisis.
