Drone attack strikes US Embassy compound in Baghdad
Details on extent of damage, potential injuries not immediately available
ISTANBUL
A new wave of rocket and drone attacks struck the US Embassy compound in Baghdad early Tuesday, triggering sirens and the sound of interceptions, Shafaq news agency reported.
Details about the extent of the damage and any potential injuries from the attacks were not immediately available, however.
The development came hours after a drone hit the upper fence of the Al-Rasheed Hotel in the Green Zone, without resulting in injuries or damage.
Hostilities in the region have escalated since Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, so far killing some 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
