IDLIB, Syria

At least 10 people were injured Sunday in an airstrike on a hospital in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib.

The three strikes reported by the local civil defense groups put the 120-bed hospital in the city of Maarrat al-Nu'man out of service, local journalist Masoud Bashura told Anadolu Agency.

A civil defense official, who wished to remain anonymous due to security concerns, said the airstrike was carried out by Russian warplanes.

The hospital had been hit in February last year.

Earlier on Sunday, Idlib countryside was targeted by regime airstrikes, resulting in three deaths.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011.

It erupted after the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests -- as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings -- with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed and more than 10 million displaced.
