BAGHDAD

At least 24 Iraqis, including eight security personnel, were killed in two separate bombings in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Thursday, local health and security officials said.

Health official Salem al-Naeli said that a car bomb exploded in a commercial street of Baghdad al-Jadeeda, a Shia-majority district in eastern Baghdad.

“Fifteen people were killed and 45 others injured in the attack,” al-Naeli told Anadolu Agency.

In another attack, a bomber rammed his vehicle into a military checkpoint in Taji, a Sunni-majority area in northern Baghdad.

“Eight soldiers and the bomber were killed in the attack, which also left 22 troops injured,” Iraqi Brigadier-General Nazem al-Zameli told Anadolu Agency.

Iraqi officials often blame the attacks on the Daesh terrorist group, which has seized vast swathes of territory in Iraq in 2014. However, so far there have been no claims of responsibility in the latest attacks.

Last month, hundreds were killed and injured in a spate of attacks claimed by Daesh group in Baghdad.
