Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced on Sunday.

Onyeama is also a member of the coronavirus Presidential Task Force in Nigeria.

''Did my fourth Covid-19 test yesterday at the first sign of a throat irritation and unfortunately this time it came back positive. That is life! Win some lose some. Heading for isolation in a health facility and praying for the best,'' he tweeted.

The news came after Onyeama announced that Nigerians that are being evacuated from France, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Norway, Germany, Holland, UK and Canada all tested negative before boarding for Nigeria on Sunday.

Coronavirus cases in Nigeria have risen to 36,107 with 653 new infections, according to figures late Saturday from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Six new deaths were recorded in the West African nation, bringing the total to 778.
