Turkey on Friday condemned bomb attacks in northeastern Nigeria that killed scores of people.

"We vehemently and fiercely condemn and denounce these terrorist attacks, which targeted innocent civilians on the eve and the first day of Eid al-Fitr," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We wish that the perpetrators of these ruthless acts of terror committed on Muslim holy days are captured at the earliest and given the heaviest punishment deserved."

On Friday, the first day of the Eid holiday, up to 15 people were killed by twin blasts as worshippers were praying in Damaturu, Yobe state. A day earlier, 49 people were killed by a similar double bombing at a market in Gombe state.

Nigeria’s northeast has witnessed a recent increase in attacks - often suicide bombings - which authorities have blamed on Boko Haram insurgents.
