KUWAIT CITY
Kuwait's Interior Ministry on Tuesday confirmed the first death among prisoners due to the novel coronavirus.
A ministry statement said a 59-year-old female inmate - whose name has not been released - died Monday evening, a week after she was hospitalized for coronavirus treatment.
The ministry noted that the deceased was suffering from chronic diseases as well.
On June 11, the ministry reported infections among 286 inmates in the central prison.
As of Monday evening, Kuwait recorded a total of 40,291 cases, including 330 deaths, and 31,770 recoveries.
