Ukrainian president expresses gratitude for $106B support package for 2026-2027, stressing that 'joint pressure' is essential to alter situation on ground
ISTANBUL
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday held a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss a multi-billion euro aid package and ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure peace.
"Negotiations are currently ongoing that can fundamentally alter the situation, and it is essential to ensure the right pressure on Russia for the sake of peace – joint pressure from all partners," Zelenskyy said in a statement on Telegram following the call.
The Ukrainian leader expressed gratitude for the European Council's recent decision to adopt a €90 billion ($106.4 billion) financial assistance framework for Ukraine spanning 2026–2027.
He described the EU's engagement as vital at what he termed a "decisive diplomatic moment" for the nation.
The discussion focused on bolstering Ukraine’s resilience and strengthening its position at the negotiating table.
Zelenskyy noted that despite the upcoming holiday season, Kyiv and its partners continue to work daily toward the shared goal of achieving peace and guaranteeing regional security.
The leaders agreed to maintain close contact in the coming days as diplomatic activity intensifies.
Zelenskyy also thanked von der Leyen for the European Union's consistent support since the beginning of the full-scale conflict.
