ISTANBUL
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday held a coordination meeting on the country’s border protection and the current security situation in the northwest during an official visit to the city of Lviv.
“In particular, the parties discussed the operational situation on the border with the Republic of Belarus. In addition, information was provided on counter-subversive measures in the relevant territories,” a statement by the Ukrainian presidency read.
Zelenskyy was informed about the condition and strengthening of fortifications on the border, as well as material support of border guards and servicemen in the regions bordering Belarus.
We must be ready both at the border and in the regions, Zelenskyy said. The meeting also touched on ensuring the protection and operation of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant.
Zelenskyy emphasized that protection from external risks would facilitate the normal functioning of the region's economy, noting that the morale of the people is important and how this reflects on people’s work “defines how we support the army, our defenders."
The Ukrainian leader also participated in a ceremony commemorating Ukrainian soldiers who have died since the start of the war with Russia last February.
