Turkish charity group hands out food aid in W.Balkans

BELGRADE, Serbia

A Turkish charity group lent a helping hand to hundreds of needy people in Western Balkan countries of North Macedonia and Serbia as part of its relief work during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), an aid group linked to Turkey's state-run Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), distributed a 1,000 Macedonian denar (some $20) shopping gift card to 60 disabled people each in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.

The foundation volunteers visited the Skopje Disabled Association under the slogan of "Don't Forget Your Brothers, You Are Expected".

Murat Alkan, Turkey’s religious affairs counselor in N. Macedonia, told Anadolu Agency that they also organize iftar, fast-breaking, meals and distribute food packages in the country during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation organized an iftar meal in Serbia's capital Belgrade.

Iftar at Bajrakli Mosque hosted nearly 500 people. The foundation also distributed more than 300 food packages during the fast-breaking meal.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Fatih Yucel, Turkey’s religious affairs counselor in Belgrade, said that the foundation distributed more than 500 food packages in Belgrade and 1,700 others in Serbia.
