Turkey claimed a sensational win in Sweden, UEFA said on Tuesday after Turkey recovered from a two-goal deficit and defeated Sweden 3-2 on Monday.

"Turkey rallied late to beat Sweden," UEFA said in its website on Tuesday.

Turkey clawed back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Sweden 3-2 Monday in a UEFA Nations League group match at Sweden’s Friends Arena.

Akbaba leads late Turkey comeback in Sweden

"Emre Akbaba was Turkey's hero, scoring an 88th-minute equalizer before a sensational late winner as Mircea Lucescu's side recovered from 2-0 down in Solna," UEFA said.

"The hosts looked to be cruising after goals from Isaac Kiese Thelin and Viktor Claesson either side of half-time. Hakan Calhanoglu's fine swift reply gave Turkey hope, though, and Akbaba did the rest," UEFA said.

Sweden coach Janne Andersson said, "Turkey was much more ready and ambitious."

Turkish coach Mircea Lucescu said, "This team is the future team. We should trust this team. We played well and won."

"Comebacks are in our soul," Turkish national team official account tweeted.

"Emre Akbaba scored twice late on as Turkey completed an extraordinary comeback from 2-0 down to beat Sweden in the Nations League," BBC Sports said.

Sweden was beaten by England in July's World Cup quarter-finals, BCC Sports reminded.

"Turkey seal remarkable comeback win in Sweden," the Guardian said.

"Turkey were victorious over Sweden," said Daily Mail, adding "Akbaba's brace helps Turkey beat Sweden."

Akbaba scored twice as Turkey snatched a stunning 3-2 victory over Sweden, Daily Mail said.

Swedish were overthrown by Turkey after leading 2-0, French L'Equipe newspaper said.

"Akbaba the hero of Turkey," L'Equipe said.

"The Turks with Hakan Calhanoglu who plays in Italy's Milan team overcome Sweden in a creepy race, overturning the result in the final minutes," Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport said.
