Spain's northern Basque Country region posted a record high temperature Wednesday amid a heat wave.

The extreme heat wave this summer in Spain has affected the region the most, with Sodupe district reporting its highest temperature ever of 45.3C (113.5F), according to the country's meteorological department.

Alava, one of the three Basque provinces, recorded a temperature of 44.6C (112.2F), while Bilbao Airport saw a high of 43.7C (110.6F).

Meanwhile, the average temperature on the coastline is around 36C (96.8F), said the weather agency.
