A man was gored by a bull in Spain’s Pamplona bull run on Tuesday, the Red Cross reported.
Six others were injured as scores of runners took part in the famous “running of the bulls” held during the San Fermin festival. The race covers around 825 meters (900 yards) through the streets of the historic capital of Navarre.
Since 1911, when the bull runs started, 15 people have been killed. Then event was immortalized in Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises.
A Red Cross spokesman said seven people were taken to a city hospital for injuries suffered in the 8.a.m. local time (0600GMT) run.
Thousands gather every year to watch as runners dressed in traditional white with red neckerchiefs race through the narrow streets alongside bulls.
On Saturday, animal rights activists protested against the run and the festivals bullfights, holding placards and chanting: "Pamplona's streets are stained with the blood of bulls."
