Two members of Italy's VL Pesaro Basket club were tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.

The basketball club from Italy's top-tier basketball league said they would take all measures necessary to prevent the spread of the virus among the team members.

The club, however, did not share any information if those infected were players or part of the coaching staff.

Besides China, Italy has seen the highest number of virus cases with 10,149, according to the World Health Organization, which declared the outbreak a pandemic.

While the global death toll in 114 countries is nearly 4,300, the infection has killed at least 631 people in the European country alone.

To contain the virus, the Italian government has implemented a nationwide lockdown with schools and universities closed, and all events and gatherings cancelled.
