ATHENS

Greece is bracing for two new heatwaves that are expected to last until the end of July​​​​​​​, the country’s National Meteorological Services (EMY) announced on Thursday.

From July 21 to July 23, temperatures are forecasted to escalate and reach 43°C (109°F) in most parts of the mainland, with the northern region of Thessaly expected to experience as high as 44°C.

On Monday, July 24, there will be a drop in temperatures ranging between 2 to 5 degrees, primarily affecting the eastern parts of the country. However, another heatwave is anticipated from July 25 and is expected to last until the end of the month

Meanwhile, the daily Kathimerini reported that visits to certain tourist sites, including the Acropolis in Athens, may be closed, and food deliveries could be banned until evening hours during the heatwaves.
