French prosecutors open probe into possible police misconduct in Noisiel
Investigations launched into officers' conduct, urban violence, ban violations
GENEVA
French prosecutors have reportedly opened a probe into possible police misconduct following an arrest in Noisiel, a town east of Paris, according to a report Tuesday by Franceinfo.
The Meaux public prosecutor's office said one arrest, captured on video and widely shared on social media, "was carried out under conditions likely to question its legitimacy, in its principle, as well as in its modalities."
In the video filmed from a nearby building, two police officers are seen following a man before pinning him to the ground late Monday.
The man was examined by a doctor and remains in police custody, with a forensic medical assessment planned to document any injuries, according to the prosecutor's office.
The investigation into possible misconduct has been entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police.
Earlier in the evening, three other individuals aged 18 to 23 were detained, two of whom were subject to administrative bans restricting their presence in certain areas.
Separately, prosecutors launched a probe into urban violence after about 30 people gathered late Monday outside a municipal police station in Noisiel.
Authorities said fireworks were launched toward officers and "several people tried in vain to violently enter the premises … after having damaged the gate."
Police reinforcements were deployed and came under projectile attacks, while a police vehicle was "heavily degraded." Four people, three minors aged 15 and one adult, were arrested, said Franceinfo.
