The Bulgarian president expressed optimism on Friday about talks on the "Ukraine peace plan," saying it is "finally" time to use all diplomatic instruments to end the conflict.

"Finally, we have a voice of wisdom; I hope so, and the talks between (US) President Trump and (Russian) President Putin show that we have strong political will," Rumen Radev told Anadolu on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in the southeastern German city.

He noted that all the military and economic instruments were "exhausted" to solve this conflict, adding, "We saw that it is impossible."

His remarks came amid increased discussion of Trump's "peace plan" for Ukraine, which is among the top agenda items at the MSC.

"It is finally time to harness all the instruments of diplomacy to find a just, sustainable solution and peace," said Radev.

The president added, "That is why this dialogue is vitally important."

Radev hoped that they would see this continue to enlarge the dialogue to involve Europe and Ukraine on the table "to find this sustainable solution."

Asked whether he views this plan as the only way for Europe's security, the president said, "This is not the final solution."

"We need a lot of work to be done because the final goal is not just to solve this conflict and to find peace in Ukraine; the final goal is to build reliable security architecture on the global scene," he added.

The three-day annual flagship conference kicked off in Munich, hosting over 50 heads of state and government and around 150 ministers from all over the world.

In addition to expected intense talks on the war in Ukraine and US President Donald Trump’s Ukraine peace plan, the conference will also address the Middle East crisis, Syria's political process, conflicts in Africa, and tensions in Southeast Asia.
