Large wildfire near Athens kills elderly man, forces evacuations
Strong winds hamper firefighters' efforts to control blaze near Greek capital

ATHENS
An elderly man died in a large wildfire that broke out Friday some 29 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of central Athens, in the town of Keratea, also forcing evacuations, Greek media reported.
The man was found dead in his house, which was claimed by the fire, said public broadcaster ERT, adding that six areas in and around the town are already covered by evacuation orders.
The fire remains out of control mostly due to strong winds, despite the best efforts of firefighting teams, supported by numerous aerial vehicles and volunteers, it added.
According to ERT, the situation remains dire as the fire continues to rage and expand on multiple fronts.
