Death toll from heavy rains and storms in Western Balkan region rises to 9

BELGRADE, Serbia
At least three people were killed, including a child, in Serbia as a result of incidents related to heavy rain and storms, officials said on Saturday.
A child was found dead in the northern city of Novi Sad, although the cause of the death has yet to be determined, according to police.
A woman was also killed in Kovacica, a town in the South Banat District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, from smoke inhalation after a fire was started by lightning.
A man died in the same region's Backa Palanka town while attempting to remove power cables that had fallen over his house.
Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry said that at least 10 people were rescued in the Novi Sad and Backa Palanka regions, which were hardest hit by heavy rains and storms.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia are also facing extreme weather as the toll from heavy rains and storms in the Western Balkan region has risen to nine.
