Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured a new order for installation of Egypt's first privately-backed wind farm, the company announced on Wednesday.
The wind farm, which will consist of 125 wind turbines with a capacity of 262.5 megawatts (MW), will be located at the Gulf of Suez in Ras Ghareb, the company said.
Siemens Gamesa received this order from a consortium composed of French energy group ENGIE, Japanese independent power providers Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, and Egyptian engineering and construction firm Orascom Construction.
"This is the first privately-backed wind farm being developed in Egypt where until now all of the wind facilities have been backed by the NREA [New and Renewable Energy Authority], the Egyptian state renewable energy promotion body," the company noted.
Siemens Gamesa will also handle the facility's maintenance for 15 years and the installation of the 125 turbines is scheduled for completion by July 2019.
The facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2019, the company noted.
