Norwegian energy giant Statoil signed an agreement to sell gas to Ukraine's Naftogaz, the Nordic company said on Friday.
The agreement with Naftogaz is for deliveries of gas from Slovakia.
Officials, contacted by Anadolu Agency, did not mention the value of the deal and noted that this is a short-term and relatively low-volume agreement.
Norway is Europe's largest oil producer and the world's third largest natural gas exporter. Norway is an important supplier of both oil and natural gas to other European countries.
Ukraine consumed 52 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2012 and produced 19 bcm in the same year. Russia halted gas supplies to Ukraine on June 16th, over an unsettled dispute over debt and gas prices.
Following this, Kiev has imported natural gas from Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
