A Cheniere official gave reassurances on Wednesday of sufficient LNG supplies at a time when there is much speculation of shortages on the European market.
According to Andrew Walker, vice president for LNG strategy and communication at US producer Cheniere, LNG cargoes are flowing around the world without hold-ups.
During the Flame energy and natural gas conference in Amsterdam, Walker spoke of much flexibility and liquidity on the global LNG market and explained that the high price volatility was down to supply chain issues.
The energy crunch in Europe has seen a surge in gas prices, which many experts contend is due to Russia not sending enough gas to Europe, thus changing the supply and demand dynamics.
Gas prices in Europe grew by around 200% since the start of the year while natural gas storage levels in Europe are at low capacity.
During the Flame conference, many speakers debated that the sky-high energy prices from Europe to Asia highlighted the need for more investment in natural gas supplies.
David Ledesma, chairman of the Natural Gas Program at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, argued that new liquefaction capacity investments are needed not only for LNG but also to accommodate hydrogen. He added adding that these would need to be supported by clear regulations and policies.
During the conference, many experts reiterated that the upcoming winter season would be important in determining gas prices based on higher consumption and demand.
