Türkiye signed three-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) agreements on Tuesday with energy majors bp, Eni and Shell during the Gastech 2025 forum in Milan, securing a total supply of 8.7 billion cubic meters as Ankara seeks to bolster energy security and diversify supplies.
Turkish state energy company BOTAS signed a three-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchase agreement with energy major bp, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced.
Under the deal, bp will supply Türkiye with about 1.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of LNG annually, for a total of 4.8 bcm over three years, Bayraktar said in a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.
Bayraktar, who is attending the Gastech 2025 forum in Milan on September 9-12, said the agreement is important for ensuring supply security, diversifying resources and strengthening commercial flexibility during the winter months.
Bayraktar also met with Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi and BOTAS and Eni signed a three-year agreement for the annual supply of 500 million cubic meters of LNG.
The deal will give Türkiye flexibility in managing seasonal supply and demand with a total purchase of 1.5 billion cubic meters, Bayraktar added.
The Turkish minister also met with Cederic Cremers, Shell's president of integrated gas to discuss BOTAS' natural gas supply strategy, possible cooperation on exploration and production in the Black Sea, and joint energy initiatives in third countries. Following the meeting, BOTAS and Shell signed a three-year agreement for the purchase of 2.4 billion cubic meters of LNG.
In a separate post on NSosyal, Bayraktar said BOTAS also signed a new agreement with Oman LNG to deepen cooperation.
"The Strategic Cooperation Agreement seeks to boost LNG production capacity in Oman, expand collaboration on FSRUs and LNG carriers, and explore additional LNG purchase options," Bayraktar said. "This step reflects the Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation we signed in Oman in July."
Bayraktar also met with Libyan Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Abdulsadek. The two ministers reviewed the status of existing cooperation, focusing on hydrocarbon exploration and production.
Bayraktar said he discussed a new partnership with Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli that will support Türkiye's Black Sea production targets and address global market dynamics.
Following the meeting, Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) subsidiary TP-OTC and Baker Hughes signed an agreement to support Phase 3 production targets at the Sakarya Gas Field.
The deal covers the supply of subsea production systems and well completion equipment, aiming to boost daily output in the Black Sea to 40 mcm by 2028.
BOTAS and PetroChina International signed a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of the forum, providing for extensive cooperation in LNG sector.
The deal will provide a foundation for deeper cooperation in areas including LNG trade, optimization, efficient transport management and joint efforts in new markets, Bayraktar said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Bayraktar met with Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.
With the agreements signed in recent years, Türkiye and Hungary "aim to carry out joint projects in key areas such as hydrocarbon exploration and production, natural gas trade and nuclear cooperation," Bayraktar said.
"We reviewed the progress of these projects with Szijjarto and focused on efforts to further strengthen our energy partnership," he added.
Speaking at the ministers’ panel at Gastech 2025, Bayraktar also outlined Türkiye’s vision and projects to boost energy supply security and build a more resilient system with the international community.
