The US state of Wisconsin declared an energy emergency Thursday in response to severe weather challenges that have disrupted the supply of heating and transportation fuels.
Governor Tony Evers said in a statement that he signed the executive order 'due to persistent challenges caused by severe regional winter weather and its impact on the distribution of residential heating fuel, including heating oil and propane.'
The executive order aims to combat shortages caused by icy roads, delayed rail shipments and soaring demand for propane, gasoline and heating oil.
To address the crisis, the executive order suspended regulations, including hours-of-service limits for fuel truck drivers, to expedite deliveries.
The energy emergency measures also aim to ensure timely access to essential fuels as residents endure freezing temperatures.
'Getting residential heating fuel like propane and heating oil moving now to those who need it will help Wisconsinites remain safe as we continue to face cool and freezing temperatures in the coming months,' Evers said.
The order further encouraged residents to conserve fuel where possible and stay informed about weather updates.
