The Danish Energy Agency has moved the electricity and gas sector to emergency level 'Orange', the second highest level after gas leaks were detected on the Nord Stream pipelines.
The Agency stated on its website that three leaks were detected on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines.
It relayed that the Danish authorities were informed on Monday evening of a major pressure drop on the Nord Stream 1 concerning two leaks, one in the Danish economic zone and the other in the Swedish economic zone.
The leaks were identified shortly after a leak detection on Monday on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Based on the incidents, the Danish Energy Agency recommended that Energinet, the Danish electricity and gas system operator, raise the level of sectoral preparedness in both the electricity and gas sectors.
'Breakage of gas pipelines is extremely rare, and therefore we see reason to raise the preparedness level as a result of the incidents we have seen over the past 24 hours. We want to ensure thorough monitoring of Denmark's critical infrastructure in order to strengthen security of supply going forward,' the Director of the Danish Energy Agency, Kristoffer Botzauw, said.
