The Power of Siberia natural gas pipeline that will carry Russian gas to China will start operating on Dec. 2, the Press Secretary of Russia's president Dmitry Peskov announced on Monday.
Both Russian president Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony via a teleconference call, Peskov confirmed.
A sales and purchase agreement for the pipeline was signed with Russian partner Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in May 2014 for the supply of 38 billion cubic meters per year of Russian gas to China for 30 years.
In February 2019, Alexey Miller, Gazprom's CEO said the construction of the pipeline was ahead of schedule with Gazprom set to start supplies to China on Dec. 1, 2019.
