Turkiye's Borsa Istanbul drops 5% at close

ISTANBUL

Turkiye's benchmark stock index ended on Monday at 1,910.29 points, down 5.02% from the previous close.

Starting the week at 2,004.87 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 100.87 points from Friday's close of 2,011.16 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,910.29 points, while its daily high was 2,013.10.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.53 trillion Turkish liras ($114.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 39.3 billion liras ($2.9 billion).

During the first transaction day of the week, six stocks on the index rose and 94 fell compared to last week's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and petrochemical firm Petkim.

Real investment trust IS GYO was the best performer, with its shares up 3.24%, while stocks of the conglomerate Net Holding saw the sharpest drop, 9.57%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,839.90 by market close, slightly up from $1,839 at the previous close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $85.30 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT).
