Turkish stocks post strong gains at Monday's close

Turkey's benchmark stock index on Monday climbed 2.65% to hit its record high closing level of 2,311.40 points.

Starting the day at 2,264.47 points, BIST 100 index jumped 59.72 points from Friday's close of 2,230.35 points.

During Monday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 2,264.47 and 2,311.40 points – 83 stocks on the index rose, 13 fell, and four were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of around 1.9 trillion Turkish liras ($129 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 50.3 billion Turkish liras ($3.4 billion).

Shares of private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron/steel producer Kardemir posted the highest trading volumes on Monday.

Energy company Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE) was the best performer with its shares up 9.98%, while shares of commercial vehicle manufacturer Karsan Otomotiv (KARSN) dropped the most, 5.19%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,928.75 by market close, up from $1,920.55 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil fell to $106.31 per barrel as of 7 p.m. local time (1600GMT) on Monday, up 1.84% from the previous close.
