Turkish stocks on rise at Thursday's close

ANKARA

 Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday up 0.89% to close at 108,658.98 points. 

Starting the day at 108,260.07 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 957.66 points from the midweek close at 107,701.32 points.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 108,151.34 points and 109,031.94 points -- 73 stocks on the index rose, 24 fell, and three were flat compared to the previous close. 

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 740.6 billion Turkish liras ($129.1 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 10 billion Turkish liras ($1.74 billion). 

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.80 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.53 billion) and Akbank ($7 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100. 

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense company Aselsan and petrochemicals producer Petkim recorded the highest trading volumes -- accounting for some 25% of the benchmark index's total trade volume. 

Stocks of energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding (IEYHO) were the top gainers with a 12.20% hike, while shares of bedding and furniture company Yatas (YATAS) dropped the most, falling 5.96%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,474.70 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,477.70 at the previous close. 

The price of Brent oil was $64.45 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday, with a day range of $62.74 to $63.9.
