Turkish stock exchange begins midweek down

ISTANBUL

 Türkiye's benchmark stock index opened Wednesday at 10,210.76 points, down 0.14% or 14.72 points from the previous close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 was down 1.28% to 10,225.48 points, with a daily transaction volume of 88.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion); on Tuesday, the stock exchange was closed due to July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

As of 10.00 am local time (0700GMT), exchange rates stood at 40.2490 Turkish liras to the US dollar, 46.8390 to the euro, and 54.0075 to the British pound.

The price of an ounce of gold was $3,338.90, while Brent crude oil was trading at $68.30 per barrel.
