Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Wednesday's close

ANKARA

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,367.25 points on Wednesday, up 1.52% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,349.22 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 20.41 points from the previous close of 1,346.84 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,349.22 points, while its daily high was 1,368.98 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.03 trillion Turkish liras ($119.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.29 billion Turkish liras ($1.19 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 90 stocks on the index rose, seven fell, and three were flat compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by polyester producer Sasa, private lender Garanti BBVA, and flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Borusan Yatirim ve Pazarlama A.S., which invests in companies operating in steel, distributorship, logistics, and technology sectors, was the best performer with its shares up 10%. Stocks of RTA, active in the biology and health fields, saw the sharpest drop with 1.19%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,810 by market close, up from $1,795 at Tuesday's close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.50 per barrel as of 6.52 p.m. local time (1552GMT).

Borsa Istanbul will be closed on Thursday as the country will observe the Democracy and National Unity Day to mark the anniversary of the defeated coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
