ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 0.02% to close Wednesday at 1,325.49 points.

Starting the day at 1,326.76 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 0.2 point over Tuesday's close of 1,325.29 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,318.39 and 1,338.95 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 979.5 billion Turkish liras ($124.9 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 30.4 billion Turkish liras ($3.9 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 40 stocks on the index rose, 58 fell and two were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA and aviation firm Pegasus.

Telecommunications company Karel was the best performer, with its shares up 9.95%, while stocks of automotive firm Dogus dropped the most, losing 3.38%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,825.15 by market close, up from $1,809.70 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $47.70 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Wednesday.
