ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 1,517.86 points, down 2.11%.

Starting the day at 1,558.03 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 32.75 points over Monday's close of 1,550.61 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,515.25 points, while its daily high was 1,560.29 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.16 trillion Turkish liras ($165.75 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 39.24 billion Turkish liras ($5.57billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 12 stocks on the index rose and 88 fell compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical firm Petkim, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and polyester producer Sasa.

Aviation firm Pegasus was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of Sasa dropped the most, losing 9.97%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,811.90 by market close, up from $1,795.95 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.45 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Tuesday.
