European stock markets ended Wednesday mixed.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 rose 0.1%, or 0.56 points, to close at 554.76.

France's CAC 40 index climbed 0.44% to 7,743.93 points.

On the other hand, Germany's DAX 40 index was down 0.44% to end at 24,046.21 points, and the UK's FTSE 100 fell 0.11% to close at 9,255.5.

Italy's FTSE MIB 30 index dropped 0.72% to 42,349.41 points, and Spain's IBEX 35 index lost 0.65% to end at 15,020.9 points.

Global markets are experiencing a mixed trend due to concerns about the independence of the US Federal Reserve, while US chip maker Nvidia is expected to release financial results later on Wednesday.

In Europe, the mixed course is due to political uncertainty in France.

Prime Minister Francois Bayrou announced earlier this week that he would hold a vote of confidence in the National Assembly ahead of the government's budget discussions, which have sparked debate within the opposition, and are aimed at reducing public debt.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, a leader of the far-left Unyielding France (LFI) party, announced it would initiate impeachment proceedings against President Emmanuel Macron if Bayrou's government fails the vote of confidence in the National Assembly.

On the data side, the GFK consumer confidence index for September in Germany fell short of expectations at 23.6.
