European stock markets close mostly higher

Stoxx 600 up 0.18%, Germany's DAX ticks up 0.02% UK's FTSE 100 climbs 0.16%, while Italy's FTSE MIB loses 0.22%

European stock markets close mostly higher

European stocks closed the first trading day of the week with gains, except for Italy and Spain

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index rose 0.18%, or 1.01 points, to close at 555.53.

Germany's DAX 40 index inched up 0.02% to end at 23,745.06 and Britain's FTSE 100 index rose 0.16% to 9,299.84.

The CAC 40 in Paris climbed 0.13% to end Monday at 7,880.87 points.

On the other hand, Italy's FTSE MIB index was down 0.22% to 42,554.4 and Spain's IBEX 35 index fell 0.22% to close at 15,316.3.

On the data side, the economic confidence index in the euro area rose by 0.2 points on a monthly basis in September to 95.5, above market expectations.

German flag carrier Lufthansa announced that it will cut 4,000 administrative jobs, as it seeks to enhance efficiency through digitalization and automation.

The euro/dollar exchange rate rose 0.21% to 1.1726 as of 1647GMT.
