The EU's trade surplus in medicinal and pharmaceutical products reached a record €220.5 billion ($233.7 billion) in 2025, according to official data released on Monday.
The EU exported €366.2 billion worth of medicinal and pharmaceutical products last year and imports stood at €145.7 billion during the same period.
Exports increased by 16% compared with 2024, while imports rose by 21%.
Ireland was the largest exporter to non-EU countries with €93.8 billion, Germany followed with €67.9 billion and Belgium with €38.5 billion.
Italy became the top importer from outside the bloc at €27.5 billion euros, Belgium and Germany followed with €24.7 billion, and €24.2 billion.
The US remained the primary destination for EU exports, accounting for 43.8% of the total at €160.6 billion, and Switzerland ranked second at 16.3%, followed by the UK at 5.6%.
The US also led imports to the EU with a 41.2% share, valued at €60.1 billion while Switzerland and China accounted for 28.4% and 9% of imports respectively.
Türkiye remained among the trade partners for the bloc's pharmaceutical sector.
