The end of March will see Crimea's public employees’ salaries paid in Russian rubles, Nikolai Barilyuk, Chairman of the Bank of Crimea has said.
“In the future, the ruble will be used for the currency and we make all necessary actions to avoid any delays,” Barilyuk continued.
He added that they would introduce the ruble gradually as they phase out the Ukrainian currency hryvnia with this transition period lasting until 2016.
The Crimean parliament had already announced that the Russian ruble would be circulating alongside the Ukrainian hryvnia until it is withdrawn in 2016 after the peninsula voted in a referendum to join Russia.
