Chilean ambassador visits Anadolu Agency headquarters

Chile's ambassador to Turkey paid a visit on Wednesday to the headquarters of Anadolu Agency, Turkey's premier news source.

Rodrigo E. Arcos Castro was welcomed at the headquarters in the capital Ankara by Serdar Karagoz, the agency's chairman of the board and director-general, and Yusuf Ozhan, the deputy director-general and editor-in-chief.

In the meeting, Karagoz expressed his pleasure to host Castro.

Underlining that Turkey and Chile could cooperate in many areas, Karagoz emphasized the importance of the role played by the media, especially Anadolu Agency, in strengthening ties between the two nations.

For his part, Ozhan conveyed information on the agency's global news presence and its News Academy.

Karagoz also voiced the agency's desire to see Chilean journalists participate in an annual war journalism training program organized by the News Academy.

Noting that Anadolu Agency has nine freelance reporters in Chile, Karagoz expressed his wishes to employ a permanent representative in the country.

Castro also highlighted the importance of the media's role in strengthening relations between the countries and said he follows and appreciates the agency's coverage.

The ambassador also mentioned how Turkish TV series are watched by a wide audience in his country. Furthermore, he spoke to Karagoz about the general elections to be held in Chile in November and the country's efforts to rewrite its constitution.

He added that they would work to ensure that journalists from Chile participate in the agency's war journalism training.
