Uzbekistan receives over 1M more COVID-19 jabs

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan 

Uzbekistan has received over 1 million doses of vaccines from China and Russia, the country's Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Some 1 million doses of ZF2001 vaccine, developed by Anhui Zhifei Longcom in collaboration with the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 70,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V, have arrived in the capital Tashkent, the ministry said.

The total number of shots that have arrived in the country so far has reached 5.4 million as Uzbekistan has received a total of 3.5 million doses of China's ZF2001, 660,000 shots of Vaxzevria -- the vaccine developed AstraZeneca and Oxford University, and 170,000 Sputnik V doses in the past four months, it added.

The Central Asian country has so far administered over 2.47 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Uzbekistan reported 243 more infections over the past 24 hours, raising the total to 102,605.

One more fatality moved the death toll to 702, while recoveries rose by 191 to reach 98,592.

Some 3,311 COVID-19 patients remain under treatment in the country.
