Tajik President Emomali Rahmon expressed his support for efforts to find diplomatic ways to reach a settlement in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, said a statement by the country’s presidency on Sunday.

“The Leader of the Nation expressed gratitude for the information and supported efforts to find political and diplomatic ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis,” the statement said following a phone call between Rahmon and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The statement said Putin informed Rahmon on the main results of the ongoing negotiations with the US.

It said that the two leaders further discussed current issues surrounding the development of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda, noting that both sides expressed their readiness for further joint measures in developing bilateral ties.

A later statement by the Kremlin on the phone call said that Putin also informed Rahmon of his talks with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow last Wednesday, noting the agreement on holding face-to-face talks with his US counterpart in Alaska on Friday.

Putin and Trump are set to hold talks in Alaska to discuss ending the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, in what will be the first face-to-face meeting between two sitting Russian and US presidents since June 2021.
