No casualties, damage reported as tremors of up to magnitude 5.4 strike eastern Hualien County

Taiwan hit by 15 earthquakes in 24 hours

ANKARA 

At least 15 earthquakes struck Taiwan in the past 24 hours but no damage or casualty was reported anywhere on the island, local media reported on Thursday.

All of the earthquakes, which started on Wednesday afternoon, hit the island nation’s Hualien County, located along its east coast, according to daily Taiwan News.

The tremors ranged between 3.1 and 5.4 on the Richter scale, with an originating depth between five kilometers (3.1 miles) to 14.2 kilometers (8.8 miles).

The latest earthquake was recorded in the county at around 6:11AM on Thursday (2211GMT Wednesday).

Authorities said no injuries or any significant damage had been reported.
