South Korean mayor, who went missing on Thursday, was found dead in northern Seoul, Yonhap News Agency reported early Friday, citing police.

“Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon was found dead in northern Seoul, police said after he was reported missing by his family,” it said.

On Thursday, the local media reported that the mayor of South Korea’s capital was missing.

Police launched a manhunt to find Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon after his family reported him missing.

A missing report by his daughter was filed with police at around 5.17 p.m. (0817GMT) on Thursday.

“He had left home four to five hours ago after leaving words like a will, with his phone currently off,” read the report filed by Parks’ daughter.

The officials at the local government headed by Park said the mayor “did not show up for work during the day because of health issues”.

An ex-official from Park’s office is reported to have filed a criminal complaint against him.

And reports are also linking the case to an alleged sexual assault.

The daily schedule was canceled including a meeting set in Park’s office due to "inevitable circumstances,” the officials notified.

Police is yet to make details public about the case.
