Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday to take part in a Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) meeting.

According to an official statement by the Russian government, the participants of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting will focus on the establishment of a common EAEU financial system and examining the perspectives of economic and industrial cooperation.

The union body's meeting will be held in Cholpon-Ata, a Kyrgyz resort town, on Friday.

The Eurasian Economic Union, aimed at boosting economic relations, was founded in 2014 between Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia; Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan joined later.

Medvedev’s visit to Kyrgyzstan comes in the wake of a failed attempt to arrest the former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev who is accused of corruption.

On Wednesday, a police officer was killed, 45 people wounded during the raid on Atambayev’s residence, which ended up with the special forces withdrawal early Thursday after failing to detain Atambayev.
