KARACHI, Pakistan

Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday met with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss a host of regional and international issues, including "deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestine."

Pakistan's Army Chief Gen. Syed Asim Munir also attended the meeting, the highlight of Kakar's two-day visit to the UAE, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The two leaders reaffirmed the resolve to "further" strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation and dialogue between Pakistan and the UAE.

"Kakar expressed profound gratitude for the UAE’s firm support to Pakistan in economic and financial domain," according to the statement.

The UAE is home to 1.8 million Pakistanis.

Kakar expressed Pakistan’s support for a "just and durable" solution to the Palestinian question anchored in international law and in line with relevant UN and Organization of Islamic Cooperation resolutions.

He reiterated Pakistan’s full support to the UAE’s Presidency for COP 28, underlining its importance as an opportunity for meaningful progress toward effective and result-oriented global actions in key areas to mitigate climate impact, including the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund.

The two leaders later witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries, pertaining to investment cooperation in the sectors of energy, port operations projects, wastewater treatment, food security, logistics, minerals, and banking and financial services.
