Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday discussed Middle East tensions during a phone call amid the indirect talks between the United States and Iran.

The two discussed the situation and its implications for international peace and security, Dar said on the US social media platform X.

Dar underscored that the UN remains indispensable to conflict prevention and resolution and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path to sustainable peace.

Guterres, in turn, extended his “full support” for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in pursuit of peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan on Thursday confirmed its direct role in relaying messages between the US and Iran aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.

Dar confirmed that the US has shared 15 points that are “being deliberated by Iran.”

Earlier, sources in Islamabad told Anadolu that this week was crucial for any potential breakthrough in talks between Washington and Tehran.

The sources also said Islamabad expects a US delegation, but that Tehran remains wary due to mistrust.
